Flowers from Jerusalem
31" x 29" x 2"

All wood and paints of this piece are original.  Old gray blanket box wood surrounds six lozenges with three rare giant Hebrew wood type letters, and three actual pages from the book "Flowers from the Holy Land" (c. 1900). This book has actual pressed dried flower arrangements from the area around Jerusalem, labeled in German, French, English, and Hebrew. Mat varnish preserves the flowers. A most unusual historical ensemble of rare and lovely elements.

I have a small but very rare and beautiful collection of Hebrew wood type, mostly from the Jewish Daily Forward of New York. I use it sparingly and treat it with great respect, attempting to create Judaic works that rise far above the ordinary in materials and concept. I mix sacred and profane elements while suggesting the distress of history with worn historic items.
